You need to solve all 10 chess puzzles in order to buy the “Maximized Focus” skill in the combat tree. There is three types of chess activity, but this video focuses on the Survival puzzles which I think are the easiest ones to do. These activity’s can be found in The Loop area of the map. Solve all 10 and you get access to the skill, which is needed for the Magic Smoke trophy / achievement.

For anyone who is having difficulties using the analog to make a selection you can use the D-Pad to highlight the pieces and it's a lot easier to navigate.
I was about to finish the sixth puzzle until someone started shooting in the coffee shop.

I don't know how you think these are the easiest. Then again I've never been good at chess. x_x; The puzzles where you have to take the pieces in a certain number of moves was super easy for me. I got 3 stars in all ten puzzles in like 15 minutes.

For those with trouble with the AI moving an extra space this worked for me, instead of moving the knight to take the Rook move the king up one, then down one, up and to the right and then up and to the left and it should work out
