Chess Master solves chess puzzles (1867 – 2116)

I spend about 15 minutes solving puzzles via lichess’s “Puzzle Streak”, and I share my train of thought throughout. Feel free to play along by quickly pausing the video each time I say “White/Black to move”. These puzzles are rated between 1867 & 2116.

I’m a self-taught National Master in chess out of Pennsylvania, USA who was introduced to the game by my father in 1988 at the age of 8. The purpose of this channel is to share my knowledge of chess to help others improve their game. I enjoy continuing to improve my understanding of this great game, albeit slowly. 1. love these puzzle videos! that last one was great!

  2. Taking that long to see Bd6 o.O Is that a NM type of chess master.

  3. Yeah you mentioned somewhere that these were designed for around a 1700 player, Jerry. That seems about right, cos I’d put myself at about 1750-1800 (OTB) and I was solving at just about the rate you were, following almost identical thought patterns. Thanks!

  4. I really enjoy this format. I was pleasantly suprised how well I did but I completely missed the power of the passed pawn in the last one.

  5. Hey Jerry. Hope you are doing well. Thanks for the video. Only missed the mate in two. I was thinking the rook check in the 8th rank.

  6. Awesome vid please do this again. It’s great hearing the train of thought from a high elo player. My worst habit with puzzles is throwing in the first move right away, and then trying to solve the puzzle after i know my first move is correct. trying to solve from the initial position and trying to beat you before you solved it was a good test and satisfying when i got it correct

  7. Very helpful content this one Jerry , thank you
Although most preferred online rapid or blitz games

  8. At 4:57 Black is still down material. But it does look like a fun attacking position.

  9. Hi, I was watching this Chanel when I was only a 800 rated player and now I am a 1800 rated player and of course I do a lot of puzzles and even the bd6 move was immediately obvious to me, it was the third move that I saw and it is a 2000 rated puzzle but here is the catch ; I can never even imagine to defeat a 2000+ rated player! Honestly I feel like I hit a brick wall and I don't know what to do.
And thank you for everything that you do for the chess community, I am living in a "developing country " and I know that it's not easy for a lot of people to get a chess course and you really introduce the correct way to play chess to many people.

  10. The chess master lived a long life! 1867-2116 😁

    Great content as always, Jerry!

  11. Do you find when progressing through puzzles that they become increasingly hard to see?

  12. Its so instructive to hear the manmer in which a strong players analyzes positions.
The internal dialogue here is so adept at noticing positional strengths and weaknesses to help zero in on beat moves.

The chasm between my thought process and what is offered here is humbling, even for a player who is not too ego imvested in the game.

  13. Thanks Jerry, I really enjoy seeing your thinking as you do these. I rate 780 on rapid games but 1800 plus on puzzles. How do I get my game to match my puzzle rating? What am I doing wrong? Thanks

  14. that could be longer! I'd love to see continuous streak to a first mistake 🤔

  15. Thanks Jerry. Your train of thought is so helpful even although I got them all.

  16. I only watched idly for the first few, but I paused for the last two and got them!
