Chess Master solves chess puzzles (1708 – 1909)

I spend about 15 minutes solving puzzles via lichess’s “Puzzle Streak”, and I share my train of thought throughout. Feel free to play along by quickly pausing the video each time I say “White/Black to move”. These puzzles are rated between 1708 & 1909.

I’m a self-taught National Master in chess out of Pennsylvania, USA who was introduced to the game by my father in 1988 at the age of 8. The purpose of this channel is to share my knowledge of chess to help others improve their game. I enjoy continuing to improve my understanding of this great game, albeit slowly. 1. I love doing puzzles on lichess. I'm glad you're sharing this with us.

  2. Thanks for the videos, Jerry. I definitely look forward to seeing more puzzle streaks in the future if you so desire to upload them in the future. πŸ™‚

  3. Love the video idea, but I wish you would have done some the easy puzzles by yourself, and started recording later on. Your thought process is the interesting part, but there is not much to be had when solving mate in 2's

  4. Legend has it solving many chess puzzles correctly gives you a big blue hand

  5. 1618.
That was fun. Did better than I thought I would=]

  6. I like this format. It gives me a chance to try them myself first.

  7. Thanks Jerry, i got them all, your thought process was illuminating thak you.

  8. I wonder if lichess improved the puzzles. Many years ago I sat down with stockfish for an hour and found dozens of puzzles were completely wrong or missing multiple solutions. Shallow stockfish(1 second or less of calc) thought they were accurate, leaving the engine crunch for a minute showed the truth

  9. Thanks for the content! I know not all puzzles result in a clear win, sometimes you're fighting for equality for example. But the puzzle concluding at 6:15 seems to have the vibe that white is clearly winning after the combination. And IDK how clear that is.

  10. I like this type of video. I play puzzle streak often on Lichess and I enjoy your thoughts when solving these puzzles!

  11. I know the more thrilling bullet / blitz videos no doubt prove more popular, but I'm always more excited with a notification for these more spacious uploads (15-minute Standard games / Rapid Tournaments / Puzzles, etc). It's so cosy and I feel that intermediate players can soak up a lot more instruction from them; I know I have! Thanks for all the content, Jerry, been watching for a decade and there's no other chess YouTuber I'd put before you.

  12. eeeey, finally! I've been looking forward for this series to be back!

Yay! Time to rewatch the previous puzzles you've made!

    Thank you, Jerry!

  13. I hate when it gives you a puzzle and you crunch all the numbers trying to figure out how to handle a certain variation, and then they just throw you a softball by giving you a piece immediately. Like okay, sure, maybe that prolongs mate 1 move longer, but it's far less challenging.

Like at 6:12, I saw all the way to that point with the skewer, but that's only if black plays, what looks like to me, a bad move. What if black just moves the queen and says, "Okay, but I'm still up a piece. Now what?" Yes, I'm sure there's still a win, but my point is, I should have to find it.

Stockfish needs to get better at playing against humans' weaknesses.

  14. Who else noticed that the cursor was a normal size until the last puzzle where it was much bigger? πŸ˜‚

  15. Pretty cool! This might make good content for those of us who want to study chess but need a little motivation. The video also allows us to review the puzzles again at a later time and see if we learned anything. Thanks Jerry!

  16. Really enjoy hearing your rationale behind these. It's interesting to hear your experienced ideas and watch you analyze positions that have more depth than what initially meets the eye. Great video as always

  17. I love puzzle solving videos! Great one Jerry!

  18. I love doing puzzles with you. Please more

  19. The #36 one was weird. Feels like black's reply Ne5 is very weak and straightforward to play against. I was considering what happens after Kg8 or f6, in both moves, White's response is certainly not as clear as winning a piece after Ne5.

  20. Next time, keep going until the blue hand covers the entire screen.

  21. Nobody would believe me if I said the cursor was blue and that it was getting bigger and bigger.

  22. Jerry, it is SO helpful when you speak aloud your internal thinking. I have been a teacher (music) for 50 years. I've studied with many masters of music and I have always found the most important thing I take away from my study with anyone, is in learning how they think and how they organize their thought. Thank you so much for the lesson! God bless you!
